안녕하세요? 요즘 분위기에 어울리는 노래가 있습니다. 뮤지컬 ‘캐츠 (Cats)’에 나오는 ‘Memory’…… ‘추억’이란 제목의 노래인데요. 

‘Memory’…… ‘추억’, 이 노래는 원래 뮤지컬 ‘캐츠’ 의 삽입곡이죠. ‘캐츠’는 ‘고양이들’이란 뜻인데요.

미국 작가 토마스 엘리엇 (Thomas. S. Elliot)의 시을 바탕으로 한 뮤지컬로 고양이를 통해 인간의 속성을 우화적으로 그린 겁니다.

영국의 앤드루 로이드 웨버가 곡을 쓰고, 트레버 넌이 가사를 썼는데요. 1981년 영국 런던에서 초연해 좋은 반응을 얻었구요. 다음 해 미국 뉴욕의 브로드웨이서도 대성공을 거둬서, 브로드웨이 4대 뮤지컬 가운데 하나로 꼽히고 있습니다. 이 노래 ‘Memory’는 극중에서 늙은 매춘부 고양이 그리자벨라가 부르는데요. ‘캐츠’에 나오는 노래 중에서 가장 잘 알려진 곡이죠.

여러 가수가 이 노래를 불렀는데, 오늘은 영국 가수  Sarah Brightman의 노래로 골랐습니다. 개인적으로 좋아하는 가수라서 그렇습니다.

많은 이가 불렀지만 일일이 들어본결과 그외에는 바브라 스트라이잰드(Barbra Streisand)가 아주 잘불렀어요.

일단 영어 가사 부터 시작하면,
